Teaching and Workshops

My style of teaching is experiential with the emphasis on instruction and learning together from shared practice.  I am currently an adjunct professor at North Park Theological Seminary where I am also Director of Spiritual Formation.  I teach Spiritual Direction and Solitude at the seminary and have previously taught classes in Spiritual Practices, Spiritual Direction Practice, Introduction to the Ignatian Exercises, Prayer and, most recently, an on-line class in Journaling as a Spiritual Practice.   At the Center for Spiritual Direction offered through North Park Seminary, I am a core teacher leading contemplative listening groups, offering instruction and supervision in the practice of spiritual direction.  Within the Center for Spiritual Direction I teach an Introduction to Spiritual Direction and Streams of Tradition within Spiritual Direction, Developing a Rule of Life, Leading Spiritual Retreats and other courses as needed for the program.

I am currently a teacher as well as spiritual director at the Journey Center in Santa Rosa, CA during January and June of each year.  In June I will be Director of their newly begun program for training in spiritual direction and retreat leading.  I teach a six week class on Scripture and Spiritual Companioning at the Institute for Spiritual Companionship in Evanston, IL.  I have also taught at New College Berkeley in Berkeley, CA, an affiliate institution of the Graduate Theological Union, and I have been a group facilitator at the Diploma Program in Spiritual Direction at San Francisco Theological Seminary.

I am available for as a teacher and workshop leader on a variety of different topics including spiritual practices such as lectio divina, journaling, centering prayer, examen, developing a personal compass, a rule of life, and more.
