Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is a relationship of listening, discernment and prayer in a confidential setting of encouragement and compassion.  As a spiritual director I am a companion who can listen to the stories of your life and help discern the presence and work of God’s Spirit.  The relationship itself provides a safe, hospitable place and time to pay attention to movement of the Spirit in the context of your life.  I invite people to enter more deeply into their own spiritual journey by discovering the signposts along the way, naming for themselves what they see and understand and become more fully engaged in what God is doing in their lives and the world around them.

As a spiritual director I believe and trust that God is directing each of us from within our lives.  My goal is to reflect God’s own listening, loving presence in order to illumine that Presence.  My hope is that those who enter spiritual direction with me might grow closer to God and become more fully the person God created them to be in Christ Jesus.

I have been a spiritual director for fifteen years, completing my training in 1993 at Mercy Center in Burlingame, CA.  My continuing education includes studies at the Program in Christian Spirituality at Creighton University and studies at Regent University.  I also teach spiritual direction and gives supervision at the Center for Spiritual Direction at North Park Theological Seminary in Chicago, IL and the Journey Center in Santa Rosa, CA.  I am a member of Spiritual Directors International and the Chicago Area Spiritual Directors where I will be a featured speaker on May, 2009.

I am available for individual spiritual direction and can be contacted at hcepero@northpark.edu or 773-244-5216 for an appointment to see if this is a way of deepening your own life with God.
